The Lie We Tell Ourselves
Here's what the Dual-Role Dynamo tells herself:
"I don't have time for hobbies. I'm too busy building. I'll do hobbies when I'm successful. I'll do hobbies when I have more money. I'll do hobbies when I'm not so tired."
Translation: "I'll never do hobbies."
Because there will always be another email. Another deadline. Another thing that feels more urgent than learning to paint. Or trying rock climbing. Or taking that salsa class. Or learning guitar. Or starting a garden. Or finally writing that book.
But here's the truth nobody wants to hear: Your hobbies aren't taking away from your success. They're the thing that's going to make your success actually worth having.
Why Your Brain Is Begging for This
Your brain is exhausted.
Not because you're working hard. But because you're working the same way all the time.
You're in problem-solving mode. You're in productivity mode. You're in achievement mode.
Your brain is literally screaming for permission to do something different.
And a hobby is permission.
It's the thing that lets your brain rest while staying engaged. It's the thing that reminds you that you're more than your work. It's the thing that actually makes you better at your work because you're not burning out.
(Plus, people with hobbies are cooler. That's science. Probably.)
What Happens When You Actually Try Something New
I don't know yet. But I'm about to find out.
I'm going to try things I've never tried. I'm going to be bad at them at first. I'm going to surprise myself. I'm going to learn things about myself I didn't know.
Maybe I'll discover I'm a natural at rock climbing. Maybe I'll find out I have a hidden talent for photography. Maybe I'll realize that meditation is the thing my anxious brain has been begging for. Maybe I'll fall in love with cooking. Maybe I'll discover I can actually carry a tune and should join a choir.
Or maybe I'll try all of these things and be mediocre at most of them.
And you know what? That's the best part.
Because being mediocre at something means you get to learn. It means you get to surprise yourself. It means you get to remember what it feels like to be a beginner.
And that feeling? That's where the magic is.
The Permission You've Been Waiting For
This is it.
This is your permission slip to try that thing you've been thinking about.
To take that class. To pick up that instrument. To try that sport. To learn that skill. To explore that interest.
Not because it will make you money. Not because it will grow your business. Not because it's "productive."
But because you deserve to feel alive. Because your brain needs it. Because the Dual-Role Dynamo who's building an empire also gets to live while she's building it.
Introducing: The Bucket List Segment
Starting today, I'm doing something different.
I'm exploring new hobbies and skills. I'm trying things I've never tried. I'm learning things I've always wanted to learn. And I'm taking you with me.
Each post will be:
A real experience. The wins. The fails. The "wait, I'm actually good at this?" moments. The honest version of what it's like to be a beginner at something.
A reflection on who you become. Because hobbies aren't just about the skill. They're about discovering what you're capable of when you're not trying to be productive.
An invitation. To try it too. To share what's fueling you. To remember that you're allowed to have a life outside of work.
The Bucket List (Your Permission Slip)
I've created a list of 80+ hobbies and skills I want to explore.

As I cross them off, I'm not just learning new skills. I'm showing you what it looks like to be a Dual-Role Dynamo who actually lives—not just works.
The Real Talk
You can be ambitious AND happy.
You can be building an empire AND learning to paint.
You can be crushing your goals AND trying something new just for fun.
You don't have to choose.
In fact, choosing both is the only way to win.
Your Move
What's the thing you've been wanting to try but haven't?
What's the hobby that excites you but feels like a luxury?
What would it feel like to give yourself permission to explore it?
I'm starting this journey. And I'm inviting you to join me.
Pick something from the bucket list. Try it. See what it teaches you about yourself.
And then come back and tell me.
Because the Dual-Role Dynamo doesn't just build empires.
She also lives fully.
And that's the real victory royale.
