After I wrote about self-investment, I felt it.
The resistance.
The voice in my head is saying: "This is too much. You're spending too much money. You're being selfish. You should be saving. You should be practical. You should wait."
And I almost listened to it.
What Resistance Looks Like
Resistance doesn't come as a big, dramatic voice telling you to stop.
It comes as doubt. It comes as practicality. It comes as fear disguised as wisdom.
It sounds like:
"I can't afford this right now."
"Maybe I should wait until things are more stable."
"Other people need me more than I need this."
"I'm being irresponsible."
"What if I fail?"
"What if I invest and it doesn't work out?"
And the worst one: "Who do I think I am to invest in myself like this?"
Why the Resistance Shows Up
The resistance shows up because you're about to change.
You're about to invest in yourself. You're about to prioritize yourself. You're about to stop waiting.
And that's a threat to the old version of you. The version that was comfortable. The version that was small. The version that was safe.
So the resistance fights back.
It tries to convince you that the old way was better. That playing small was smarter. That waiting was the right choice.
But it's lying.
The First Wins
Despite the resistance, I kept investing.
And I started seeing wins.
Win #1: Energy
After two weeks of consistent gym sessions, I have more energy. I'm sleeping better. I'm more productive.
The investment in my body is paying off immediately.
Win #2: Clarity
As I'm investing in my mind (the 21-day fast, spiritual connection), I'm getting clearer about what I want.
The fog is lifting. The noise is quieting. I'm starting to hear my own voice.
Win #3: Confidence
As I'm investing in my skills (learning to vlog, documenting my journey), I'm feeling more confident.
I'm not perfect. But I'm showing up. And that's building confidence.
Win #4: Momentum
All of these investments together are creating momentum.
I'm not just thinking about change. I'm living it. I'm experiencing it.
And that momentum is making it easier to keep going.
How to Push Through the Resistance
1. Acknowledge it.
Don't pretend the resistance isn't there. Don't try to ignore it.
Name it. Say it out loud: "I'm feeling resistant right now. I'm scared. I'm doubting myself."
Acknowledgment takes the power out of it.
2. Remember why you started.
Why did you decide to invest in yourself in the first place?
Was it because you were tired of being small? Tired of waiting? Tired of playing it safe?
Go back to that reason. Sit with it. Let it remind you why this matters.
3. Look at the wins.
What's already shifted? What have you already gained?
Even small wins count. More energy. Better sleep. Clearer thinking. More confidence.
Write them down. Look at them when the resistance shows up.
4. Find your people.
Tell someone about your investment. Tell them what you're doing and why.
Find people who are also investing in themselves. People who get it. People who won't talk you out of it.
Because the resistance will try to use other people's doubt to convince you to stop.
Don't let it.
5. Keep going anyway.
This is the most important one.
You don't have to feel confident to keep going. You don't have to feel certain. You don't have to feel like it's working.
You just have to keep showing up.
Show up to the gym even when you don't feel like it. Show up to your spiritual practice even when you're doubting. Show up to your vlogging even when you're scared.
The wins come from consistency. Not from feeling ready.
The Truth About Resistance
Here's what I've learned: Resistance is a sign that you're on the right track.
If there's no resistance, you're probably not growing.
If there's no resistance, you're probably staying small. Playing it safe. Waiting.
But if you feel the resistance? That means you're pushing yourself. That means you're changing. That means you're becoming someone new.
And that's exactly where you need to be.
The Cost of Listening to Resistance
If you listen to the resistance, you stay where you are.
You don't invest in your body, so you stay depleted.
You don't invest in your skills, so you stay stuck.
You don't invest in your mind, so you stay confused.
You don't invest in your presence, so you stay invisible.
And five years from now, you'll be in the same place. Wishing you had invested. Wishing you had pushed through the resistance.
Don't do that.
Where I Am
I'm pushing through the resistance.
I'm investing in my body. I'm investing in my mind. I'm investing in my skills. I'm investing in my presence.
And yes, I feel the resistance. I feel the doubt. I feel the fear.
But I'm doing it anyway.
Because I know what's on the other side of the resistance: Growth. Clarity. Confidence. Momentum.
And I'm not going back to the old version of me. The version that was waiting. The version that was small.
I'm becoming someone new. And the resistance is just proof that it's working.
